Terms and conditions for tutorials,
and those for the use of this website.
Initial Session: initial sessions with new students are free and with no obligation. Lasting up to an hour these sessions are aimed at getting a full understanding of the students needs, and to share information such as contact details and subject related data.
Start time: I will generally arrive for a session ten minutes before the allotted start time. This will allow time for greeting, last minute changes and preparation for the session before we get down to the work.
Session structure: Each session builds on the last with a focus on the concern areas identified by the student and from ongoing discussion. Prep can be set and then marked. Students receive prep relevant to the session or current issues. Prep is generally returned for marking before the follow-on session. This enables issues to be identified and tackled in the follow-on session.
Text and email support: For a period of seven days after each session the student can take advantage of text message and email support for issues within the subject or prep set. Small issues are usually resolved by these methods. More difficult ones are dealt with in a follow-on session. As my mobile is off during sessions, most of the time I will not be able to respond to voice, text or email straight away. You should expect a response within twenty four hours of sending. All text messages and emails are copied to parents unless the parents opt-out or it is technically not possible.
Session cancelation: Sessions cancelled earlier than 24 hours before the start time will not incur any cancellation fee. Cancellation after this time will incur a fee of one hour's tuition.
Payments: Payment for sessions can be made by bank transfer (receipt notified by email within 48 hours), cash or cheque. Invoices are issued where payment is by bank transfer, otherwise on requested or where necessary. Receipts will be issued at the ends of the financial and academic years, unless requested otherwise. Invoices must be paid within one month of issue. If there is a issue with payment please contact Michael Andrew Smith with details of the issue and a plan will be put in place to repay the debt. Any overdue invoices will be result in all monies owed becoming due with a late payment fee of one hours tuition plus interest at 8% above the Bank of England base rate. Continued delay in payment will be dealt with via solicitor/courts. See when-a-payment-becomes-late for more details.
